Professor
Emeritus William McGee, chemistry, a founding member of the UCF faculty,
retired from the Department of Chemistry in May 2003. McGee helped
develop the Forensic Science program and served as its first director
and later as director of the National Center for Forensic Science. Under
his leadership, UCF's forensics program expanded rapidly and is now
considered one of the top three programs in the world. For his efforts,
he received the Recognition Award for Outstanding Contribution to
Forensic Science Education from the American Academy of Forensic
Science. Regarded as an expert in forensic science DNA, he also received
the Allen Berman Award for Best Paper given by the Naval Research
Laboratory.
Research Dr. McGee directed the
Forensic Science Program since September 1972. Dr. McGee has both crime
laboratory and court-room experience. In 1978, Dr. McGee was on
sabbatical leave in Denver, Colorado working at the Colorado Bureau of
Investigation Crime Laboratory.
In 1997, Dr. McGee founded the National Center for Forensic Science,
and was installed as Director. As a joint venture between UCF and the
National Institute of Justice, the NCFS helps coordinate research and
cooperation among forensic professionals specializing in arson and
explosion debris analysis.
