Glass
Forensic Science at UCF

Glass Analysis: Modern methods of forensic glass analysis have turned to the use of laser ablation - inductively coupled plasma - mass spectrometry (LA-ICP-MS). We are investigating an far less expensive alternative to forensic glass analysis through the use of laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS). The focus of our research is on determining and controlling those factors that affect the accuracy and precision of LIBS analysis. A direct comparison is between LA-ICP-MS and LIBS is being undertaken to ascertain the discriminating power of LIBS relative to an accepted method of forensic glass analysis.
